Interested to know what people think of the new brushes by dscosmetic . I hadn’t heard much on these forums about them, but I took a shot on one and it’s nothing short of amazing. I got a two-band badger bulb knot in their “Space” type handle. Everything from softness, to backbone and denseness of hairs, to release of lather, to the comfort of handle is amazing. I’d go so far as to say it feels very similar to badger knots in brushes by M&F/Paladin. It should also be said that they have Plisson-type knots, as well as “tuxedo” synthetic knots in very beautiful handles—and their price point is between $10 and $30 US. For this type of value, I really can’t believe that these brushes aren’t talked about more. What do you think?

Never heard of them - until now that is. I have found with AliExpress, you have to read the product pages carefully. That said, I picked up and 26x60 2 band ST and a 22x55 extra density ST. Total out-the-door price for the two brushes shipped = $47.14. If the brushes Wow! me half as much as the price, it will be a good deal.

So, here's a hopeful Thanks! to you zym .

What is your experience with brushes by "M&F/Paladin", and which of those brushes serve as the basis of your comparison? Can you show photos of them?

+1...
Not to knock the OP, as these could turn out to be great brushes, but them's big words that would be nice if they were backed up with some additional info other than a thumbnail picture in a different brush thread. From pictures on AliExpress they seem pretty similar to most of the other brushes sold through there.

Well, time will tell on these brushes one way of the other. I have three Yaqi brushes that are worth way more to me than I paid, a Cashmere Synthetic, a white Mountain Silvertip, and a 2-band (not silvertip). OTOH, none of these comes close to the one and only Shavemac I own, so I understand and agree with skepticism about them being in the M&F/Paladin class. I am not expecting that. Finally and FWIW, I agree that the pictures look similar to other ALiExpress offerings, but it's the hair description caught my attention (although you have to read through the product pages carefully to get all the specs). Here is what I have in the pipeline:

The prices have gone up since I purchased, but these two silvertip brushes cost me $47 total. I could be wrong, but I am expecting that these brushes will be well worth the money, although not top tier like Shavemac etc.

For what it's worth, a post identical to the OP above (with the exception of included) appeared on TSN under the username scotte. Curiously, "scotte" is identified on the DS Cosmetics website as a company founder responsible for marketing.

"Took a shot on one," eh?

I don't doubt these brushes are a good value for the money. We pay more just for knots in sizable orders than these guys get for a brush, which isn't to say they're on a par in terms of quality. But that's beside the point here. It comes down to what an individual wet-shaver cares about.

Definitely, and I'm not saying they won't be a good value at the price you got them for. I just feel for ChiefBroom and all his hard work when a post like this comes up that could be, well, 'suspect' in its legitimacy (i.e. 2 posts on DFS, both involving this amazing new brush that everyone should try). I have and enjoy a couple knots/brushes from overseas, but I don't think they're nearly as good as the nicer products that these are being compared to.
We're in a brave new world with so many good products, but I do think the cream rises to the top :-)

Fact is the comparisons to M&F/Paladin, while dubious at best, are probably good press for us in a twisted kind of way. If I were Brad, I might be thinking "what am I, chopped liver?"

But all of that's beside the point. I don't begrudge any wet-shaver, especially those on tight budgets, for taking advantage of Chinese brushes offered at "dump" prices.

I do, however, think that deceptive marketing and abuse of forums like this ought to be called out.

A post that was word for word identical to the OP above appeared on TSN a few days ago under the username "scotte".

Below is a screenshot from DS Cosmetics' website. Note the name of the Leading Chief responsible for marketing ("SCOTTE"). Coincidence? I don't think so.

DSC 26x60 2B ST - UNBOXING/FIRST IMPRESSIONS

One of the DSCosmetic brushes arrived today and made a fine first impression, although not a perfect one. Dry against the cheek, it is soft and has the perfect backbone for me, with very little scritch. Measurement wise, it very closely matches the AliExpress product page. Here are the measurements I made. They are all in the form (my brush)/(AliExpress product page):

Knot (measured at the handle): 26.3/26
Loft: 59/60
Height: 126/126
Max width: 37/38
Handle waist: 27.5/not specified

The first thing I noticed upon opening the parcel is that it shipped with an apparently well cocooned brush side by side with an empty, unprotected box. I've not seen that before:

Except for the words "Shaving Brush", this is the only Arabic lettering. The outside of the parcel had an English commercial invoice which just said "Shaving Brush".

With one exception, which I'll get to shortly, the handle looked great to me.

Looking at the density by eye, the knot seems denser than the picture, but I realize the camera is likely a better judge than my eye. Either way, it still looks in the ballpark.

This was the only disappointment. There is a 1x2mm chip in the finish, and the printing is smudged and appears to have been clumsily affixed with a round, clear plastic sticker. BTW the chip is near the end of the word "brush". I think you'd have to search a long time to find a Paladin or Shavemac brush with a blemish like that.
DSCOSMETIC SHAVING BRUSH (15)

But all things considered, I am still pleased at this point. If it performs well, I'll forget about the handle bottom soon enough.
